Antidepressants are now the second most prescribed medications in the USA, however, collective evidence continues to display the serious side effects and dangerousness of antidepressant drugs, while simultaneously given little to no evidence of the effectiveness even in the short term. Additionally, the reactions caused by the drug’s withdrawal has become so problematic and life threatening that it has become difficult even under clinical supervision.
It seems like these days doctors want to diagnose everyone with anxiety and just pop pills in their mouth. So much so that even a usual routine visit to the doctor can end up with a diagnosis of some type of anxiety disorder just for having some minor signs of stress on your face. When a doctor prescribes an anxiety medication to you, you naturally start to think to yourself that your going crazy, as if you are different from everyone else, resulting in a low self esteem.
Assuming you do experience anxiety and panic attacks, it does not necessarily mean that you should be sent to the psych department. There is a big difference between a person who sees things that don’t exist and a person whose merely having anxiety or is stressful due to life changing events, yet doctors are giving the same medication to patience with mild depression as they do to patience suffering from very severe psychological illnesses.
It gets worse…when you inquire about a natural alternative to pharmaceuticals, you will get a very negative response, leaving you think that there is no other option but to take the prescribed drug AKA “suicide pills” as I call them.
Do Doctors Really Understand the Cause of your Anxiety?
Here’s another thing the doctor does not consider…There is something called “life” and at times, we all go through stressful phases in our lives that lead us to be overwhelmed with anxiety and sometimes we simply become depressed. So if we rely on the doctors who do not understand how we feel or what we’re going through, then your not doing yourself a favor because the only thing you will get is a psychotic prescription that you most likely will never need.
Also, lets not forget here, the MD’s job is to write prescriptions and send referrals, not solve your life problems or understand the true hidden causes of your anxiety.
I have nothing against doctors, but I do have a problem with how some of them handle patients.
Often times, the patient is even taught to believe that all their problems will go away with a pill, and we all know that is never the case when it comes to dealing with stress, anxiety, and panic disorders. No matter how effective the pill, your anxiety causes will still be present.
Its not the MD’s fault that they never learned about holistic or alternative medicine in medical school, but in the same time they should not be so naive that they will actually prescribe harmful antidepressants for everyone regardless of the intensity and cause of their distress. Its important to educate yourself and find better alternatives.
The Real Truth Behind Antidepressants and Why You Should Avoid Them…
Before we continue further, its important to understand that in certain medical conditions, one must have the full attention of a knowledgeable MD and be given proper medical care as it may be needed, but in the case of treating panic attacks, anxiety, depression, and many other illnesses, those so called medications are no more effective than a sugar pill.
Lets dive straight into the facts…
According to Andrew W. Saul, an Author and therapeutic nutrition specialist with over 30 years experience in natural healing and one of the contributors in the Food Matters film, explains how our health care system is actually a disease driven system, and that there is no money to be made in reducing sickness and diseases. He states: “Good health makes a lot of sense, but it doesn’t make a lot of dollars.”
Antidepressant drug companies spend billions to produce addictive pharmaceuticals that never actually cure anything. If the so called “wonder” drugs were to actually work as we are supposed to believe, the drug companies would not be in business.
A study conducted by the Journal of the American Medical Association concluded that popular antidepressants (SSRI’s) such as Paxil and Prozac are no more effective in treating anxiety than a placebo pill. In other words, they are equivalent to the percentage of patients that actually respond to sugar pills at approximately 33% effectiveness. They go on to say that although SSRI’s are “slightly” effective in treating very severe cases of depression, they don’t have any effect on normal, routine or mild anxiety types that it is often used for.
Another study done by Columbia University and Johns Hopkins says that doctors frequently prescribe a combination of up to three anxiety medications and SSRI’s in the same time, hoping that if the first one doesn’t work then maybe the second or third will, turning their patients into experimental lab rats. What’s worst is that they do this while knowing that there is no evidence or studies supporting multiple usage and knowing that there can be extremely dangerous interactions when combining drug usage.
These medications are even being prescribed for patients without anxiety disorders, such as person’s with shyness, sadness, tiredness, and other normal lifestyle feelings that do not necessarily indicate anxiety or depression, yet these normal personalities are being classified as diseases. Why? Because it’s much easier to pop a pill or write prescriptions than it is to analyze the reasons and causes of the person’s distress.
Are Serotonin Imbalances Really the Cause of Anxiety?
Serotonin is compound created by the body and present in the blood that acts as a neurotransmitter and it is believed to be responsible for mood balances (happiness, sadness, etc). Most anxiety medications work to manipulate the serotonin levels in the brain. It is apparent that there is no serious study or facts that prove the effectiveness of such drugs. These antidepressants may be of some help if there is an extreme shortage of serotonin in the brain, but the average person’s anxiety, panic attacks and depression cannot be related to chemical imbalance in the brain.
Furthermore, there are currently no modern day medical devices or methods that is capable of measuring serotonin levels of a living person, in fact, researchers still do not know what a normal serotonin level should be.
You should be skeptical, stand your ground and challenge anyone who tells you that you have a “chemical imbalance” even if its a doctor, and tell them to prove their statement through science. Of course, they will only tell you what they learned in Medical School, but its all based on hypotheses, not facts.
Here’s the real fact: Scientists remain unsure whether decreased levels of serotonin contribute to depression or depression causes a decrease in serotonin levels.
In conclusion, drugs may not be the solution for you or almost anyone.
NOTE: If your looking to come off your anxiety medication, its best to find a integrative practitioner, a doctor specializing in holistic medicine, or a naturopathic doctor that can assist you with a comprehensive nutritional therapy plan.
New Study: Antidepressants Cause and Worsen Depression
Currently, there are little or no evidence that drugs such as Prozac produce the intended results. However, there is new and sufficient evidence that the drug would actually worsen depression and cause severe behavioral abnormalities.
Peter R. Breggin, M.D., a psychiatrist trained in Harvard, has been conducting research and analysis for over 20 years on the effectiveness of SSRI drugs and has concluded that ongoing chronic exposure to SSRI antidepressants frequently makes people lose interest in daily activities, lose the sense enjoyment, loss of concern in matters, and overall less engaged in their lives, but worst of all, more depressed.
Another recent scientific study by El-Mallakh from the School of Medicine concluded that any initial improvements done by the antidepressants are often followed by drug resistance and the worsening of depression, causing even greater long term anxiety and affliction due to the brains response to the medicine.
In addition, researchers have described the direct toxic effects that antidepressant have on the brain, explaining the emotional deterioration of patients using these drugs. Another finding shows that the consistent use of SSRI drugs produces abnormal cell growth in the rat brain, and resulting in severe tissue shrinkage in children due to cell death.
So far everything we discussed is only the pinnacle of all research conducted on the use and dangers of antidepressants. By now you should think twice about consuming the pure poison contained within these drugs.
